by Adolf Böttger (1815 - 1870)

Umsonst lacht der Viole
Language: German (Deutsch)
Umsonst lacht der Viole,
Der Rose schöne Zier,
Mit Deinem Lebewohle
Schied alle Freude mir.

Geheim nur Deiner denken,
Die nimmer kehrt zurück,
Mich in Dein Bild versenken,
Ist meiner Seele Glück.

Nun streu' ich meine Klage
Wie Blumen in den Wind,
Da meiner Liebe Tage
In Nacht zerflossen sind.

Confirmed with Gedichte von Adolf Böttger, Dritte vermehrte Auflage, Leipzig, Otto Klemm, 1847, page 53.
