Ta beauté comme une aube y fait surgir un monde
Étincelant et clair, sous un ciel enflammé.
Telle on dit que Vénus sur l’univers charmé
Resplendit en sortant des bras amers de l’onde.

Je me croyais heureux, ayant enfin dompté
Le désir qui nous jette aux pieds de la beauté
Et nous met dans le coeur la torture suprême.

J’étais fou ! rien ne vaut cet immortel tourment
