by Christian Winther (1796 - 1876)

Jeg mine Qvaler alle
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Jeg mine Qvaler alle
Paa Dør har jaget kjæk;
Jeg saae dem tumle, falde
Og ile bort i Skræk;
Men min var ikke Kraften,
Der vandt mig dette Slag;
Det var min Helligaften,
Det var min Helligdag.

Jeg veed, de staae og vente
I Kulde hist og Slud,
Og de vil atter hente
Mig, naar jeg træder ud;
Men Aftnen vil jeg feire
I mine Tankers Ly;
Saa kan de siden leire
Sig grumt om mig paany.

Og Tankerne saa glade
Omsnoe mig som i Dands;
De lade kjærligt bade
Mig i dit Øies Glands!
De drømme, at din Stemme
Mig kalder, huld og sød; -
Ak, kunde jeg vel glemme
Den Stund, da du blev fød?

Jeg takker Gud for Livet
Og selv for hvad jeg led,
For Alt, hvad han har givet
Mig i sin Miskundhed,
For hvad han lod mig bøde,
For hvad han tilgav mig: -
For alle Roser røde,
Der blomstre huldt hos dig!
