Le Val harmonieux

C'est un val odorant de lauriers, où la lune
Fait traîner et mourir sa caresse d’argent,
Tandis qu’au ciel, gai d’un crépuscule changeant,
Les sidérales fleurs s’entrouvrent une à une.

Là sourd et s’agrandit, parmi l’herbe opportune,
Une fontaine dont la Naïade, nageant,
Rit et, charmeuse, endort d’un murmure indulgent
La Satyresse blonde et la Dryade brune.

Et voici que, joyeux du beau soir, un berger 
Dont la flûte soupire un air frêle et léger
A quitté le penchant parfumé des collines,

Auprès de l’onde, il a frémi d’un doux frisson
Et, les yeux éblouis des dormeuses divines
Il s’arrête, oublieux de finir sa chanson.
