An Sie
Language: German (Deutsch)
Soll ich ewig in die bange Brust
das Geheimniss meiner Liebe schließen,
nie die Göttinn meines Seyns begrüßen
mit dem Jubel neugeschaffner Lust?
Ach vergebens malt mit Anmuthszügen
mir die Phantasie das hohe Glück
meiner leisen Hoffnung; zu besiegen
ihres schönen Auges flücht’gen Blick.

Nimmer wird sein trautes Lächeln mir
die Erfüllung meiner Wünsche winken:
tiefer wird in Gram die Seele sinken,
und doch folg’ ich, holdes Auge, dir;
und es fessle mich das tiefste Schweigen,
wie es nur auf kühlen Gräbern ruht,
sollt’ mich gleich die Sehnsucht niederbeugen,
ewig lodre doch des Herzens Gluth.
