Ich ärgre mich so stumm und dumm,
Daß ich so vieles liebe.
Das geht mir so im Kopf herum,
Ich liebe selbst die Liebe.

Ich liebe sehr den Becherklang,
Noch mehr die rheinschen Weine, 
Am meisten Saitenspiel und Sang,
Am allermeisten Eine.

Und wird es etwa besser drum,
Wenn ich nun nichts mehr liebe? 
Ach nein, und werd' ich stumm und dumm, 
So lieb' ich doch die Liebe.
