Mijn lievlings-plekje in 't woud, waar 't groene dak
Een blauwer schoort, en schemer-schijn doet dalen
Op levend loof en vol-getrosten tak,
En zonnegoud langs blader-goud laat dwalen -

Vaarwel, vertrouwde stilte! waar ik sprak
Wat nooit mijn hart tot menschen kan herhalen.... 
Gedachten-stroom, die uit mijn ziele brak,
Vloei eeuwig-onbegrepen door die zalen! 

Vaarwel, vertrouwlijke eenzaamheid, en koor,
En kleurig heir van vlinderende bloemen,
En, dáár in 't groen, gij, oogen, blauw van gloor! 

Gij hebt mij God het Leven hooren noemen, -
Gij kent mijn hart, en weet wat ik verloor.... 
't Verloorne zal naast ú voor 't ziels-oog doemen!
