Im weißen Kleid, mit Schleier und mit Myrte,
Doch bin ich wie der firne Schnee!
Wie heiße Brände auch die Sonne schürte
Und strahlte sie auch wild und weh,
Jetzt erst will ich in dir ertauen,
Du meine Seele, dir ins Auge schauen
Und wie ein Hauch vor dir vergehn.

Im weißen Kleid, mit Myrte und mit Schleier,
Ein Opfer will ich sein dem Licht!
Ihr dunklen Gluten süßer Todesfeier
Ergreift mich und verschont mich nicht!
Und wenn mich deine Arme finden,
Du meine Seele, will ich ganz erblinden
Und nur mit deinen Augen sehn.
