In Schleier und Myrte
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Jetzt erst will ich in dir ertauen,
Du meine Seele, will ich ganz erblinden
Und nur mit deinen Augen sehn.

In veil and myrtle
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
In a white dress, with veil and with myrtle,
I am nevertheless as the firmly frozen snow!
Whatever hot fires the sun stoked,
And though it shone wildly and painfully,
Only now shall I melt in you;
Gaze, you my soul, into your eyes
And like a breath dissolve before you.
In a white dress, with veil and with myrtle,
I shall be an offering to the light!
You dark embers of sweet celebration of death,
Grasp me and do not spare me!
And when your arms find me,
You my soul, I shall go utterly blind
And only see with your eyes.
