by Alphonse Marie Louis de Lamartine (1790 - 1869)

Bulbul enivre toute oreille
Language: French (Français)
Bulbul enivre toute oreille
De sons, de musique et de bruit ;
Sa voix éclatante réveille
Les échos charmés d’une nuit ;

La douce et blanche tourterelle
N’a qu’une note dans la voix :
Mais cette note est éternelle,
Et ne dort jamais sous les bois ;

C’est un souffle qu’amour agite,
Un soupir qui pleure en sortant ;
C’est un cœur ému qui palpite,
Une âme sans voix qu’on entend.

Plus on écoute et plus on rêve ;
En vain ce soupir n’a qu’un son,
L’oreille attend, devine, achève,
Et l’âme vibre à l’unisson.

Celui qu’un double charme attire
Entre l’ivresse et la langueur,
Écoute, hésite, et ne peut dire
Lequel est l’oiseau de son cœur !
