by Catharina Magdalena Van Hille-Gaerthé (1881 - 1958)

Eeuwen geleden
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Our translations:  GER
Eeuwen geleden,
kwamen getreden
herders in Bethlehems arme stal.
Zacht ziet de moeder neer
op 't Kindje, klein en teer,
't hemelse licht schijnt overal.

Kind in de heil'ge nacht,
dat ons Gods liefde bracht,
ook wij staan om uwe krib geschaard.
Lief, heilig Kindekijn,
nu wij zo stille zijn
klinkt zacht en teder: "Vreed' op aard".

See also Dejlig er jorden, which can be sung to an old melody that the author meant for this text to be sung to as well.
