Sehnsucht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn das Blühen erwacht
in der Maiennacht,
wilde Sehnsucht auflodert in mir!
O, dann möchte ich sein
nur bei dir allein,
all die Schönheit erleben mit dir!

Wie die Gräser so lind
leis erzittern im Wind
und sich schlingen, umschlingen mit Macht,
o so neige auch du
meiner Unruh dich zu
und erfülle die blühende Nacht!

Doch es ist jene Zeit
nun Vergangenheit,
versunken ewiglich,
und ich muss nun allein
wie auch bitter ich wein,
weiterleben ohne dich.

Note: stanzas 1 and 3 are by Hanna Riniker, and stanza 2 is by Mina Salm. According to the edition of music by Willy Hess, no published version of the poem can be found.
