from Volkslieder (Folksongs)
Translation by Josef Wenzig (1807 - 1876)

Schön Maria
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Bulgarian (Български)
Sitzt Maria in der Hürde,
in der Hürde bei dem Fenster,
schön Maria, und sie flicht
aus feiner Seide Schnürchen,
lieset auf die Schnürchen Perlein,
spricht zur Nachtigall, zum Vöglein:
Liebes Vöglein, Nachtigallchen,
sing so frühe nicht am Morgen,
schönes Vögelein!
Wecke mir nicht meinen Herren,
Michael, den Hospodaren,
schönes Vögelein!
Will mir eine Basilike pflücken,
will sie dann in Wasser tauchen,
mit besprengen meinen Herren,
Michael den Hospodaren!
Spreche selbst: Erwach', erwache,
Michael, du Hospodar!
Dein Gefolge harrt im Hofe,
und du sollst nun jagen geh'n!
