Es hat der Herr mich ausgesandt, Doch ist das Ziel mir unbekannt Er sprach zu mir nur dieses Wort: Du junger Bote, wand're fort. Da zog ich hin nach Botenart, Zuweilen wohl da fiel mir's hart, Doch dacht' ich oft in meinem Frohn: Am Ziele wartet dein der Lohn. Der Boten sah ich vielerlei, Die zogen rings an an mir vorbei, Der Eine trüb, der Andre froh, Doch jeder fragte: Wo, ach wo? Nun bin ich müd', wie nie ich's war, Und wandre, ach, noch immerdar, Doch blinkt's vor mir wie Hoffnungsschein: Nun wirst du bald am Ziele sein! Nur Eines wüßt' ich gar so gern, Wenn ich dem Pfad, dem rauhen fern, -- Ob's dann wohl Einer nimmt in Acht, Daß ich vor ihm den Weg gemacht?
