Translation possibly by Paul Heyse (1830 - 1914)

Dein Vater soll nicht schelten
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Dutch (Nederlands)
„Mein Schatz, willst du mit mir reiten?
Willst mit mir, mein Leben, geh'n?
Mein Tausendschön, willst du mir zeigen,
wo die Rosen am rosigsten steh'n?“

„Und wenn ich wollte dir zeigen,
wo die Rosen am rosigsten steh'n:
Mein Vater, der würde schelten,
die Mutter mich schlagen und schmäh'n.“

„Dein Vater soll nimmer schelten,
die Mutter soll nimmer schmäh'n!
Alle die roten Rosen,
die wollen wir gar nicht seh'n!“

Note: in Hildach's score, the author of the text is indentified as P. Heise (after an old Dutch song), but we have not found an independent source for this text yet.
