Da Bua in da Fremd'
Language: Bavarian (Boarisch)
Von meini Liab'n weit,
bei denan all' mei Freud',
in'n fremden Land so öd,
bei fremdi Leut' so blöd',
då muaß i mi so ummaschlågn,
kann um mei Miazerl neamst nid fråg'n.
A Niada sicht ma's ån,
dass i koan Freud' hålt nimmer hån,
mir schmeckt koan Trunk, koan Ess'n,
kånn's Dianderl nit vergess'n.
Då kimmt a Bua, der d'Zitharn schlågt,
so schön, so liag, då håt's mi påckt.
Di Zitharn spült mi hoam,
muaß flenna in da G'hoam;
auf d'Ålman und auf d'Mühl
denk' i bein Zitharnspül.
A Bua, der in da Fremd' wo is,
griagt bei da Zithern 's Hoamweh g'wiß!

The youth abroad
Language: English  after the Bavarian (Boarisch)
Far away from my beloved ones,
with whom is all my joy,
in a bleak, foreign country
with stupid, foreign people
I have to struggle along;
there's nobody I can ask about my Mary.
Everyone can see
that I have lost all pleasure forever;
I can enjoy no drink, no food,
I can't forget my lassie.
Suddenly there comes a youth that plays the zither,
so beautiful, so lovely - it really got me.
The zither reminds me of my home,
and when I'm alone, I must weep,
must think of the pastures and mills of my country,
when I hear the sound of the zither.
A youth, if he's in a foreign country,
hearing the zither, must become homesick.
