Mutter
Language: German (Deutsch)
„Mutter, wann kommt der Vater vom Krieg?“
Kinder, seid stille!
der Krieg, der grausame, ging erst an,
weiß keiner, wann er enden kann,
keiner kann es sagen!

„Mutter, die Post bringt kein Brieflein mehr!“
Kinder, seid stille!
Vater ist weit in Feindesland,
glaubt ihr, da sei eine Post zur Hand?
Gute Nacht, und schlafet!

„Mutter, was sind deine Augen so rot?“
Kinder, seid stille!
Kam mir wohl 'was ins Aug' hinein;
denkt ihr gar, ich hab' geweint?
Gute Nacht, und schlafet!

„Mutter, was trägst du ein schwarzes Gewand?“
Kinder, seid stille!
Der Krieg ist eine Trauerzeit,
sollt' ich nicht tragen ein schwarzes Kleid?
Lasst euch 'was Liebes träumen!
