Le tréteau qu'un orchestre emphatique secoue
Grince sous les grands pieds du maigre baladin
Qui harangue non sans finesse et sans dédain
Les badauds piétinant devant lui dans la boue.

Le plâtre de son front et le fard de sa joue
Font merveille. Il pérore et se tait tout soudain,
Reçoit des coups de pieds au derrière, badin,
Baise au cou sa commère énorme, et fait la roue.

Ses boniments, de coeur et d'âme approuvons-les.
Son court pourpoint de toile à fleurs et ses mollets
Tournants jusqu'à l'abus valent que l'on s'arrête.

Mais ce qu'il sied à tous d'admirer, c'est surtout
Cette perruque d'où se dresse sur la tête,
Preste, une queue avec un papillon au bout.
