by François Coppée (1842 - 1908)

Le Rêve
Language: French (Français)
Légère et d'or pâle coiffée,
Dans un nuage, sur les eaux,
C'est bien la transparente fée
Des nénuphars et des roseaux.

Demi-voilé pour le profane,
Il semble craindre le regard,
Ce corps exquis et diaphane
Qui se roule dans le brouillard.

Vers quel mystérieux voyage
Va le blond fantôme flottant ?
Est-ce une femme, est-ce un nuage
Qui glisse et vole sur l'étang ?

Mais déjà tout s'emplit d'aurore,
Et, dans le ciel rose et vermeil,
L'apparition s'évapore
Au premier rayon du soleil,

Et ne laisse pas plus de trace
Que le rapide éclair d'azur
De ce martin-pêcheur qui passe
N'en a laissé sur le flot pur.
