verwischt, verblasst ... ein blüh'nder Rosenstrauch,
ein welker Kranz, und d'rüber wie ein Hauch
ein lichter Streif: der gold'ne Sonnenschein!

Wie klein der Raum, nicht lang und auch nicht breit!
Und doch vereint: der Tod, das junge Leben,
verblasster Ruhm, verwelkte Liebe; daneben
ein schmaler Schimmer der Unendlichkeit!
