La Goutte de nectar

Par-dessus l’Océan, les monts et les déserts,
Portant à boire aux dieux sous la sublime voûte,
Ganymède épandit du nectar sur sa route,
De son flacon d’onyx orné de jaspes verts.
La liqueur, en tombant dans la coupe des mers,
Devait bientôt s’y perdre et la parfumer toute,
Quand le Zéphyr passant recueillit cette goutte,
Et, fier de son fardeau, le berça dans les airs;
Puis aux lèvres de l’homme, humble encore et sauvage,
Il alla déposer le dangereux breuvage
Comme un baiser du ciel, mêlé d’ambre et de feu.
L’homme a connu ce vin dont la saveur altère,
Et n’en voulant plus d’autre il a maudit la terre
Trop pauvre pour suffire au grandes soifs d’un dieu.
