Translation Singable translation by Hans Schmidt (1854 - 1923)

Julens Vuggesang
Language: Norwegian (Bokmål)
Du har saa blød en Vuggeseng,
mit Barn! som nogen Prinsedreng,
men derfor minder jeg dig om,
din Frelsers var kun et Krybberum.

Din Vugge er saa bred av Fang,
og lunet trindt af Silkehang;
thi vil jeg, Du skal tænke paa,
din Frelsers var kun redt med Straa.

Din Vugge har en Gang saa let
og Moders Fod blev aldrig træt:
thi vil jeg, Du skal agte paa,
din Frelsers maate stille staa.

Den stod paa Jord foruden Gang,
foruden Dun og Silkehang:
thi beder jeg dig: tag ham ind
og vug ham i dit bløde Sind.

Weihnachts‑Wiegenlied
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Norwegian (Bokmål)
Du liegst in deiner Wiege weich,
mein Kind, wohl einem Prinzchen gleich,
vergiss d'rum nicht, was ich dir sag:
Dein Heiland in der Krippe lag.

Du ruhst in warmem lichtem Raum,
auf seidner Kissen zartem Flaum,
sei eingedenk drum stets aufs neu:
Dein Heiland lag im Stall auf Streu.

Gar Ieichten Gang dein Wieglein hat
und Mutters Fuss wird nimmer matt,
lass nie dir aus dem Sinn drum gehn:
Dein' Heilands Bett musst' stille stehn.

Musst' stille stehen unbewegt,
von keinem Decklein warm umhegt,
drum nimm ihn du zu dir hinein
und wieg ihn weich im Herzen dein!

From a Grieg score.
