by Alonso de Cartagena (1384 - 1456)
Translation by Paul Heyse (1830 - 1914)

Partir quiero yo
Language: Spanish (Español)
Partir quiero yo
mas no del querer,
que no puede ser.

El triste que quiere
partir y se va,
adonde estuviere
sin sí vivirá:
mas no que pondrá
en otra el querer,
que no puede ser.

De aqueste partir
mi gloria procede:
partiendo morir
la vida bien puede,
mas no que no quede
con vos el querer,
que no puede ser.

Scheiden will ich nun
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Spanish (Español)
Scheiden will ich nun,
Doch von Liebe? Nein!
Denn es kann nicht sein.

Wer zu seinem Frieden
Scheiden will vom Schmerz,
Von sich selbst geschieden
Lebt er allerwärts,
Wird ein sehnend Herz
Keiner Andern weihn,
Denn es kann nicht sein.

Muß ich auch dich meiden,
Werd' ich Heil erwerben,
Denn es kann am Scheiden
Wohl das Leben sterben;
Doch der Sehnsucht Leiden
Schlummert niemals ein,
Denn es kann nicht sein.
