by (Karl) Wilhelm Osterwald (1820 - 1887)
Translation Singable translation by Anonymous / Unidentified Author

In der Fremde
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ei, du liebe, lange Zeit, willst denn nimmer vergeh'n,

Ei, du liebe, lange Zeit, willst denn nimmer vergeh'n,

Oh, thou long and weary time, passing on...
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Oh, thou long and weary time, passing on so slow for me,
while so fondly I'm longing my belov'd one to see.

Life is fair in strange lands, and I do not complain,
but forever I'm seeking my darling to regain.

But as long as I miss her, my heart is so sore,
as if in the long weeks no Sunday came more.

Oh, thou long and weary time, passing on so slow for me,
while so fondly I'm longing my belov'd one to see.
