by John Howard Payne (1791 - 1852)

Ah! I Remember That Sweet Hour
Language: English
Ah! I remember that sweet hour,
When first my bosom owned loves power,
And hope a garland wove me,
When Henry held me to his heart,
And fondly cried though now we part
Dear maid for life, for life I love thee!
Then swiftly passed those hours away,
And all was joy that happy day.

Ah, Henry! Will thou come to me,
As true as I have been to thee,
And never leave me, never never?
Oh yes! He'll faithful prove, I know;
There's something here that tells me so.
He'll soon be mine forever, forever
Then each sad thought will pass away,
And all was joy that happy day.
