Den befriede Havfrue

Mit Liv var en længsel, jeg selv ei forstod,
En hemmelig trængsel, et savn uden bod,
Et Suk efter frihed i Havdybets Fængsel,
En drøm kun om Livet med evige Rod

Det Liv er opdukket af Længslernes Strøm!
Hensmeltet er Sukket! Opfyldt er min Drøm:
For mig er nu også den Himmel oplukket,
Som speiled sin evige Glans i min Strøm.

Som Vindsuk i Sivet mit Liv ei forgaar:
En Sjæl blev mig givet med Menneskekaar-
Med kjærlighed følger mig Evighedslivet-
Husvalet Alskabningens Suk jeg forstaar!

En dag skal husvale Alskabningens Ve!
Den stumme skal tale, den Blinde skal se:
Når Sjælen opvaagner, som drømmer i Dvale,
det saligste kjærlighedsunder vil ske!
