Notre grand' mère, et si vieille et si sage,
contait hier aux filles d'alentour,
qu'un noir lutin apporté par l'orage
sur notre lac rode à la fin du jour.
Vogue ma soeur, et gagnons le rivage,
car ce lutin c'est l'amour.

Le jour, caché dans un épais nuage,
du crépuscule il attend le retour,
puis sur les flots, riant de son image,
dès qu'il fait sombre il établit sa cour.

Pendant la nuit, errante sur la plage,
la tendre Églé, qui pleure nuit et jour,
entend au loin la cloche du naufrage,
prend sa nacelle et n'est point de retour.

Lisa se tut, sa soeur, avec courage,
