by Franz Ferdinand, Freiherr von Dingelstedt (1814 - 1881)
Translation

Dichterwünsche
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the German (Deutsch)
Du Wolk' am Himmel droben,
von Duft und Wind umwoben,
weißt du, wohin du ziehst?
Wo du dich niedersenkest
und welches Tal du tränkest
und welchen Berg du fliehst?

Du Schmetterling hier unten
mit deinem farbenbunten
Geflügel, sprich zur Stell',
wohin du treibst und eilest,
in welchem Kelch du weilest,
du flüchtiger Gesell!

Ihr schweigtund flattert weiter
wie windige Begleiter,
wisst nicht, woher, wohin;
O flög' ich in die Weitem
wie ihr zu allen Zeiten
so leicht beschwingt dahin!
