Ich weiß es wohl, wir haben uns verstanden,
in tiefster Seele Tiefen uns geblickt,
und ohne dass der Mund es sprach, so fanden
wir doch, was uns erfreute und bedrückt.

Ich weiß es wohl, mir ward dein Herz beschieden
in einem himmlisch schönen Augenblick,
und immer bleibt es mir in Qual und Frieden
für diese Welt mein reinstes, höchstes Glück.

Ich weiß es auch, wir sind getrennt für immer,
doch sind wir ohne Wort und Schwur vereint,
bis uns dereinst in höh'rer Klarheit Schimmer
ein Wiederseh'n in jener Welt erscheint.
