So kühl noch weit und breit!
Wie schaut im bunten Kleid
Ihr Blumen nur so lustig aus den Matten!
Wie mögt ihr Vöglein pfeifen
In dieser argen Zeit! –
Mir ist so trüb, ich kann es kaum begreifen.

Ist's doch ein Traum gwesen,
Der sonder Spur verschwand,
Daß du, mein deutsches Land,
Noch einmal seist zu Ehren auserlesen.
Und wo in vor'gen Tagen
Der Stuhl des Kaisers stand,
Wächst fort das Gras; das muß ich ewig klagen.
