Das Veilchen

Blümchen der Demut, unter dichten Blättern
Birgst du [zitternd]1 die sanftgeneigten Kelche;
Und an niedern Boden verhauchen deine 
Würzigen Düfte.

Hat dich nicht Flora mit dem Blau des Himmels
Hell umkleidet und netzt der Tau des Morgens
Nicht so schön dein Äthergewand als Purpur 
Brechender Rosen?

Über dir steigt und sinkt die hohe Sonne,
Steigt und [sinket]2 das sanfte Licht der Nächte, 
Und im Schatten schwindet dein unbelauschtes, 
Schweigendes Leben.

Blümchen der Demut, du sollst so nicht sterben;
Komm und dufte, wo Götter dich beneiden;
[Duft' an Laura's bebendem Unschuldbusen]3,
Blümchen, und stirb dann!
