from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Millä maksan maammon maion
Language: Finnish (Suomi)
Millä maksan maammon maion,
millä kostan äitin koulun,
millä vaivat vanhempani?
Maksanko marjoilla kesällä,
kostan koivun jältösillä;
ei marjat mitänä maksa,
maammon maitojen eholla;
ei ne kosta koivun jälet,
kosta ei koulua emoni.
Ammunko joutsenen joelta,
virralta vihervän linnun;
ei se vielä sittekänä,
maksa ei maitoa emoni,
kosta ei äitin koululoita,
ei vaivoja vanhempani.
Maksa Kiesus maammon maiot,
kosta Luoja äitin koulut,
maksa vaivat vanhempani,
huolet kaikki kantajani!
