by Friedrich August Clemens Werthes (1748 - 1817)

Die traurende Rose
Language: German (Deutsch)
 Allzulange, Wiederhall,
 Tönst du mich zu preisen.
 Singe du mir Nachtigall,
 Klageweisen.

 Nicht der Liebling der Natur
 Bin ich, wie ich scheine;
 O! sie gab mir Qualen nur,
 Freuden keine.

 Nicht in Wonne, früh und spät,
 Schwimm' ich, wie sie wähnen,
 Ganz von Perlen übersä't;
 Nein! von Tränen.

 Ach! Gewalt und Stürme droh'n
 Meinem kurzen Schimmer!
 Kommst du morgen, ist er schon
 Hin auf immer.
