by Friedrich August Clemens Werthes (1748 - 1817)

Wiegenlied auf der See
Language: German (Deutsch)
Schlummre Knabe! um uns her
Tobt das aufgewühlte Meer!
Höre nicht, wie uns'rem Boot
Umsturz und Verzweiflung droht.

Stille! Stille! wilde Flut!
Sieh! wie sanft der Knabe ruht!
Ha! wie Well' an Welle bricht!
Schlummre fort und hör' es nicht.

Schlummre, Knabe, bis die Wut
Dieser Wogen wieder ruht!
Dann erst lache Sonnenschein
Mild in deinen Blick hinein.

Aber wenn der Rache Groll
Unversöhnbar wüten soll:
Dann entschlummre lieber ganz
Und erwach' im Engelsglanz!

Schlummre! Schlummre! Gute Nacht!
Deine Mutter weint und wacht!
Wohl dem, der in Fried' und Ruh
Unter Stürmen schläft, wie du!
