by Johann Friedrich Kasimir Rosenberger (1731 - 1776), as F. G. Schröder
Translation

Abendlied
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the German (Deutsch)
Die Sonne sinket nieder,
die stille Nacht kommt wieder
und Ruh' und Schlaf mit ihr;
sie bringt uns neue Kräfte,
für jedes Tags Geschäfte,
das danken wir, o Vater, dir!

Du führst aus dunkler Ferne
den Mond und tausend Sterne
am Firmament herauf.
Sie leuchten dir zu Ehre,
hoch über Land und Meere,
du aber lenkest ihren Lauf.

Wem kann ich ohne Grauen
mich froher denn vertrauen
als, güt'ger Vater, dir?
Ja, Vater, dir befehle
ich jetzo Leib und Seele,
lass deinen Segen ruh'n auf mir!
