Translation by Simon Dach (1605 - 1659)

O wie groß ist doch der Mann
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Latin
O wie groß ist doch der Mann,
Der durch hoher Weisheit Gaben
Alles das ergründen kann,
Wass See, Erd und Himmel haben;
Der in alle Fäll und Sachen
Klüglich sich zu schicken weis,
Kriegt in Trauren oder Lachen
Der geehrten Tugend Preis!

Aber welcher seinen Gott
Fürchtet, hat nicht seines gleichen,
Jedermann wird hier zu Spott
Und muß Hoheit halben weichen,
Denn die Furcht des Herren stehet
Über alle Ding emport,
Wer sie hat, wird auch erhöhet
Und zugleich mit ihr geehrt.
