by Ferdinand Avenarius (1856 - 1923)

Frieden
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ging vor mir ein Mägdlein her,
Im Haar einen Blütenkranz,
Sang leise über die Saaten hinaus,
Die lagen im Abendglanz --

Schritt vor mir die Jugend hin,
Sang leise hinaus übers Grün,
Und wo ihr Auge leuchten wollt,
Da that sichs auf zum Blühn.

Schritt vor mir die Jugend,
Ich stille hinterdrein,
So zogen wir beide in Frieden
Ins Abendgold hinein.

Confirmed with Ferdinand Avenarius, Stimmen und Bilder. Neue Gedichte, Florenz und Leipzig: bei Eugen Diederichs, 1898, page 13.
