by Joseph Karl Benedikt, Freiherr von Eichendorff (1788 - 1857)

Nächtlich dehnen sich die Stunden
Language: German (Deutsch)
Nächtlich dehnen sich die Stunden,
Unschuld schlaft in stiller Bucht,
Fernab ist die Welt verschwunden,
Die das Herz in Träumen sucht.

Und der Geist tritt auf die Zinne,
Und noch stiller wird's umher,
Schauet mit dem starren Sinne
In das wesenlose Meer.

Wer ihn sah bei Wetterblicken
Stehn in seiner Rüstung blank:
Den mag nimmermehr erquicken
Reichen Lebens frischer Drang. -

Fröhlich an den öden Mauern
Schweift der Morgensonne Blick,
Da versinkt das Bild mit Schauern
Einsam in sich selbst zurück.
