Wie Gott dich liebt
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Wie Gott dich liebt, du weißt es nur,
Wenn du ein Lieb gefunden,
Das treulich wie beim ersten Schwur
Dich liebet alle Stunden,
Und dich allein auf weiter Welt
  In's tiefste Herz geschlossen hält.

O sieh! wie wird ein heiß Gebet
Schon ihres Odems Wehen!
O sieh! wie jeder Blick erfleht
Dein Heil und Wohlergehen,
Wie Blick und Kuß, Gedank' und Wort
An dich nur sinnen fort und fort!

Seit mir solch Herz geschenket war,
Da lernt' ich erst es fassen,
Wie Gott so hoch und wunderbar
Mag lieben ohne Maßen,
Und knüpft, seit ich die Liebste fand,
An ihn mich auch ein ewges Band.

Confirmed with Liederbuch von Friedrich Oser, 1842-1874. Mit einem biographischen Verzeichnis der Componisten, Basel: Benno Schwabe, Verlagsbuchhandlung, 1875, pages 221-222.

How God loves you
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
You only know how God loves you
When you yourself have found a love,
Who, as faithful as [she was] at her first vow,
Loves you at every hour,
And holds you alone in the wide world
Locked into the deepest depths of her heart.

Oh see! how even wafting of her breath
Becomes a fervent prayer!
Oh see! how every glance pleads
For your salvation and well-being,
How glance and kiss, thought and word
Only think of you ever and ever!

Since such a heart was bestowed upon me,
I first learned to grasp
How God, so high and wondrous,
May love without measure,
And how, since I found my love,
I am tied as well to Him by an eternal bond.
