from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Des Buben Herzleid
Language: Swabian (Schwäbisch)
Da steh' i hier oben, schau' abe an See,
find' nirgends mei Dienderl, drum ist mir so weh.
I such's in der Näh' und i such's in der Weit',
aber i kann's net finde, drum hab' i kei Freud'.

Sonst hat mi alles ang'lacht, sonst hat mi alles g'freut,
es war mir kei Berg z' hoch, kei Weg war mir z' weit.
Mei G'müt war so ruhig, mei Herz war so frei,
und hätt' i's nie g'sehn, könnt's halt au no so sei.

Und wenn hinterm Berg d' Sonn hinab geht schön stät,
und wenn der ganz' Himmel mit Sternle ist b'sät,
dann tröpfle mir d' Auge, dann bitt' i zum Herrn:
Wann geht wohl mei Sonn' auf, wann lacht mir mei Stern?
