Es kommt ein Dunkel auf uns zu, dasaus ein Wind uns kalt umstreicht, O schwere dunkle Wolke du, die bis zur Erde niederreicht... Es steht die Wolke unbewegt, wie festgewachsen an dem Ort, und mancher sinnt wohl und erwägt und fragt: "Wann zieht die Wolke fort?" Ein Dunkel bricht auf uns herein, ich hör dich sagen: "Mach doch Licht! Es wird ein langes Dunkel sein..." Uns drückt der Wolke schwer Gewicht. Ein Kind sitzt an dem Grabenrand und blickt zur Wolke hin, die groß herunterhängt. O fernes Land der Tage, blau und wolkenlos! Wer singt ein Lied, das weithin schwingt und Kündet eine helle Zeit?! Ein Wunder, daß ein Lied gelingt ein dieser Wolkendunkelheit! O schwere dunkle Wolke du, die bis zur Erde niederreicht. Wir singen uns im Dunkel zu, und sieh: die schwere Wolke weicht.
