by Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863 - 1938)

Ninna nanna
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Ninna nanna, mio figliuolo!
Ninna nanna, occhi ridenti!
Canta, canta, rusignolo,
che il mio bimbo s'addormenti!
Fresche rose, gigli aulenti
ne la culle è il mio figliuolo.

Ninna nanna! Le lenzuola
son tessute di contento.
Oro fino era la spola
ed i licci erano argento;
e pareva un istrumento
quel telajo, una viola!

"Chi ci dorme, non si duole."
E seguiva dolcemente
quel telajo le parole.
"Questa è tela assai piacente.
Chi ci dorme, non si pente."
Ninna nanna, occhi di sole!

Ninna nanna! O rusignoli,
tutti qua, perch'ei vi senta!
Lascian tutti i nidi soli,
vengon tutti. Ch'ei li senta!
Il mio bimbo s'addormenta
sotti i canti, sotto i voli.

Benedetto! Non c'è duolo
pel mio bimbo, non tormento.
Ninna nanna! Il suo lenzuolo
è tessuto di contento.
Ninna nanna! Il lume è spento,
ma riluce il mio figliuolo.
