Tag‑ und Nachtgleiche
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Werden die Tage, die Nächte gleich,
Wird es am wildesten stürmen,
Daß auch der keckste Muth wird bleich,
Sieht er die Wogen sich thürmen.

Werden die Tage, die Nächte gleich,
Gleich an Jammer und Schmerzen,
Stärket nur Gott im Himmelreich,
Daß sie nicht brechen die Herzen!

Confirmed with Liederbuch von Friedrich Oser, 1842-1874. Mit einem biographischen Verzeichnis der Componisten, Basel: Benno Schwabe, Verlagsbuchhandlung, 1875, pages 130-131.

Equinox
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When the [length of the] days, the nights become equal,
The storms will be at their wildest,
So that even the jauntiest spirit grows pale
When it sees the towering waves.

When the days, the nights become equal,
Equally full of misery and pain,
Only God in the heavenly realm can
Strengthen our hearts so that they do not break!
