Frühlingswunsch
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie Gott uns doch so treulich liebt,
Der diesen Frühlingstag uns gibt!
Als kämen sie vom Himmelreich,
So wehn die Lüfte mild und weich!
O schmelzt es eure Herzen nicht,
Das warme goldne Frühlingslicht?
O weckt's nicht Lieb' in jeder Brust
Und, ach! der Kindheit Wonn' und Lust?
Laut singen's alle Vögelein:
Hinweg, hinweg die alte Pein!
Schon stehn die Bäume weiß und roth,
O bleibt nicht länger kalt und todt!
Und aus dem Wald wie Festgeläut
Herüber weht's: Wie schön ist's heut!
Ach! übten Alle Liebe doch,
Dann wär's unendlich schöner noch!

Springtime wish
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
How God loves us so faithfully,
He who gives us this springtime day!
As if they came from the realm of Heaven,
Thus do the breezes blow gently and softly!
Oh, does it not melt your hearts,
The warm, golden light of spring?
Oh, does it not waken love in every bosom
And, ah! the bliss and joy of childhood?
All the birdlets sing it loudly:
Away, away with the old pain!
The trees are already standing white and red,
Oh, do not remain cold and dead any longer!
And from out of the forest, like celebratory tolling,
It wafts over [to us]: How beautiful it is today!
Ah! if everyone would only practise love,
Then it would be infinitely more beautiful yet!
