Jouvencels, poursuivants d’amour,
Vous qui vivez en doux servage,
Oyez le chant du troubadour,
Bon exemple de courtoisie,
Va vous conter, comme je crois,
Par son chant verrez qu’en la vie
Cœur ne se donne qu’une fois.

Châtelain pauvre eut jeune fille
Qu’à vieux baron voulût unir,
Mais Alix accorte et gentille
Onc ne voulait y consentir.
«Beau doux ami, j’ai» disait-elle,
«De servant d’amour ai fait choix.
À Léon dois être fidèle,
Cœur ne se donne qu’une fois».

«De votre main ai fait promesse,»
Dit le père, «depuis deux jours ;
En bonheur la froide vieillesse
Pour rien ne compte les amours».
«La châtelaine désolée,»
Disait le cœur gros de soupirs :
«Sans amour vienne l’hyménée
Point ne viendra sans repentir».
