by Emanuel von Geibel (1815 - 1884)

Der Blumen wollt’ ich warten
Language: German (Deutsch)
Der Blumen wollt’ ich warten,
Vergessend was mein Herz erfuhr,
Doch jede Blum’ im Garten
Spricht mir von Liebe nur.

Die Rose will [vergluten]1,
Die Lilie ward vor Sehnsucht bleich,
Und die Granaten bluten
Zerspalt’nen Herzen gleich.

Es weint aus [hundert]2 Sprossen
Die Rebe, die zum Stock sich zweigt,
Und Thränen, reich ergossen,
Gestehn was sie verschweigt.

Und was ich nie zu sagen,
Was ich gewagt zu denken kaum,
Das ruft in sel’gen Klagen
Die Nachtigall vom Baum.

Sie ruft so süß verständlich,
Daß du, auch du es fassen mußt:
O komm und laß mich endlich
Ausruhn an deiner Brust!
