Wunderliches Wehgefühl,
Wenn ich meinen Tisch verlassen
Und die Nacht so still und kühl
Wandelt durch die leeren Gassen!

Müde und vom Wein berauscht,
Hab ich oft dem bangen Winde
Durch die Straßen nachgelauscht,
Traumbewegt gleich einem Kinde.

Irgend ein geheimer Gruß,
Irgend ein geheimes Singen,
Irgend eine Liebe muß'
In dem leisen Brausen klingen.

Eine stille Güte auch
Hat der Ton in mir beschworen --
Ist es jener Jugend Hauch,
Die ich schon so lang verloren?

Estranya sensació de pena
quan em vaig aixecar de la taula
i, a la nit tranquil·la i freda,
caminava pels carrerons deserts!

Cansat i embriagat pel vi,
sovint he escoltat el vent angoixós
a través dels carrers,
induït en somnis com un infant.

Alguna mena de salutació,
alguna mena de cant secret,
alguna mena d’amor deuen
ressonar en el seu lleuger brogit.

Aquest so ha evocat en mi
una tranquil·la bonesa –
És potser aquell alè de joventut
que feia temps havia perdut?
