by Friedrich Heinrich Karl, Freiherr de La Motte-Fouqué (1777 - 1843)

Ich bin ein schwacher Greise
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
   Ich bin ein schwacher Greise,
Zieh' nicht mehr weit hinaus;
Du suchst auf Jünglings Weise
Gar manchen fernen Strauß.
Denn Strauß sind Kusses Grüße,
Und Strauß auch die vom Speer,
Nur sind die einen süße,
Die andern bitterschwer.

    Du sollt die süßen pflücken,
Den bittern ferne seyn;
Zwar wird mein Herz mich drücken
Zu todt mit herber Pein.
Doch schläfst Du unter Lauben,
So schlaf' ich gern im Grab;
Drum brich, ich will's erlauben,
Brich nur mich Lilie ab.
