Warum verbirgst du vor mir dein Antlitz, 
warum hast du meine Seele verstoßen? 
Mein Gott, mein Heiland, wie hab' ich Tag und Nacht 
die heißesten Tränen der Reue vergossen! 
Mich hält wie gefangen mein Leid, mein Klagen, 
kein Stern erlösend im Dunkel will tagen.

Öde, dem Grab gleich, umgibt das Herz mir 
ein Schmerzensabgrund, der kalt mich umschauert; 
wie zu den Toten hast, Herr, du mich hingelegt, 
daß hoffenslos, trostlos die Seele mir trauert. 
Wenn du, Herr, mir schweigest welch' schaurig Schweigen! 
Wann meinem Flehen wirst, o Gott, du dich neigen?
