Der Wind weht über den Wald,
Wir sitzen im Wald in der Nacht,
Der rote Wein in den Gläsern lacht,
Unser Gesang in den Wipfeln hallt.

Im Waldkeller liegt der Wein -- 
Wo sind die Reben, die einst geblüht?!
Ihr erloschenes Sommerfeuer glüht
Aus dem dunklen Keller in uns hinein.

Bald liegen auch wir und sind tot,
Haben Erde in Mund und Hand.
Aber die Flamme, die uns gebrannt,
Brennt weiter und [flackert]1 rot.

El vent bufa damunt el bosc

El vent bufa damunt el bosc,
a la nit nosaltres seiem al bosc,
el vi negre riu a les copes,
els nostres cants ressonen a les capçades.

Al celler hi ha el vi –
on són els ceps que un dia floriren?!
El seu foc estival ja extingit fulgura
des del fosc celler cap a nosaltres.

Aviat nosaltres també estarem morts,
tindrem terra a la boca i a les mans.
Però la flama que era a dins nostre
seguirà cremant i flamejant vermella.
